Now it's possible to confirm your characters as registered site user. Automatic confirmation can be done by switching items in specified slots.

This confirmation doesn't have any use yet though we are going build more features and services based on it.

This is what will be added very soon:

Hide detective info about your character - most people won't see your transfer/rename.

Guild Leaders and Officers will be able to see all transfers (even hidden ones) if they have confirmed their characters

Guild Profile administration will be based on internal guild hierarchy. Current pre-moderation system will be switched to automatic confirmation.

Here is some info for third party sites who would like to use our WoW ranking data.
I know people query our data for things such as EQ-DKP modules, etc.
You can download the data for every single guild and also for all guilds of a realm at once.

Single Guild Rank

Can be accessed by adding "/json_rank" to guild URL.
Example:
http://www.wowprogress.com/guild/us/sen-jin/Premonition/json_rank

{"score":"40817","world_rank":"1","area_rank":"1","realm_rank":"1"}

You can also query various tiers/ratings:
http://www.wowprogress.com/guild/us/sen-jin/Premonition/rating.tier8.ach/json_rank

{"score":"123045","world_rank":"2","area_rank":"1","realm_rank":"1"}

Batch Rankings for Realm

Can be downloaded from this directory: http://www.wowprogress.com/export/ranks/
There is a set of files updated regularly, one file per realm/tier/rating.

WoWProgress.com Data Export Conditions
1. The data can be used free of charge.

2. Direct link to WoWProgress.com http://www.wowprogress.com/ must be placed on all pages that use the data. It must be clearly stated that the data comes from WoWProgress.com.

3. The data presented in JSON format, GZIP-compressed.

4. It's recommended to use If-Modified-Since HTTP negotiation on second request and all consequent requests to the same file in order to reduce traffic usage.

5. You must use the batch download instead of single guild requests if you want to update info for many guilds.

Lost a friend? Guild master (and the guild bank) transferred to another realm? WoW Detective comes to the rescue!

It is live now.

How to use it:

1. Go to the page of the character you want to check.
For example http://www.wowprogress.com/character/eu/magtheridon/Poptisse

2. Click to "Find transfers / renames" link. You'll find it on the right side of the page.

3. Look at the result

4. Check if the info is correct and click "yes" or "no".

We already had this search system in Sunwell and now I've reworked it from scratch.
It should be much more precise now and plus it's possible to query any character and the result is available in a few seconds - it scans millions of characters in real-time.

The index was built September 30, so there will be no detection after this date. I plan to rebuild the index every several days.

And another limitation exists at the moment: it won't be able to find some transfers as info of few guilds was lost.

At the moment it's on the test stage. Once I'm sure it's working correctly, the results will be available on http://www.wowprogress.com/detective

Update: It is live now: http://www.wowprogress.com/detective

Coliseum guild rankings

There is a few changes since the last post about Tier9 rankings.

1. If it will be possible, we are going to bind hard mode boss points to lockout, so it would depend on week number rather than day.
"If it will be possible" means if there will be separate achievement for each boss. Otherwise it's impossible to find out precise time of the kill (I wrote about it in the previous post).
If a kill was in Tuesday and we don't know exact time we cannot say which lockout it was (for a US guild). It could be late Monday - previous lockout as well as next lockout.

But I think most probably there will be the achievements http://www.wowhead.com/?achievements=15002, I just don't want to promise something I can't be 100% sure.

2. The endgame will be ranked by Tribute milestone lockout. Those who did next Tribute faster (at least 1 lockout faster) will be ranked higher, no matter how much points they had.
The reason is that each tribute essentially contains previous tribute and it contains all the bosses so there is no reason to compare by points in this case.

I understand you may object this as it might be not so comfortable, but it seems how it was intended to be.
And otherwise I'll get many complains like "we did it faster but they ranked higher!? lolwut".

There will be many guilds that completed the same achievement in the same week. In this case there will be following priority for sorting:
1. Tribute achievement lockout (milestone).
2. Score points (tier9).
3. Score points (tier8).

Update:
There is no individual achievements for the heroic bosses.
Since criteria dates can be buggy, the score will depend only on last boss you defeated.
At the end the score will depend only on Call of the Grand Crusade and Tribute achievements - this way we will know exact times.

Call of the Grand Crusade score will depend on the kill day!

The Armory added achievement times along with dates. It's hidden so you won't see it there, but WoWProgress.com now shows it for you, so you can look at your achievement times and compare it with another guild achievements.

FINALLY we know who took World First Not One, But Two Jormungars!

Note that it's informative only, it doesn't change scores, so the score still calculated using GMT kill date (we don't want to force guilds to recruit 9:00 AM raiders).

Sometimes time is unknown, that means the guild lost many members and WoWProgress.com could not guess the time.

Another issue is that time still undefined for achievement criteria, so for Tier9 bosses we don't know exact time. However we will know times for all achievements, such as Call of the Crusade and all other regular achievements.

Coliseum guild rankings discussion

I'm going to share some details of upcoming Tier9 rankings. The work is in progress and it would be good to have an early feedback on the ideas.

First, the ranking will be based on the hard mode plus normal mode Anub'arak as it seems there is little point in the other normal modes (normal mode can be added in future, though it won't influence on positions of guilds that are doing hard modes).

So all the 5 hard mode bosses plus Call of the Crusade will be considered as encounters with nominal score bound and effective score will depend on kill date - as it is now.

That's not all yet.
There will be the tribute achievements included into the encounter ranking.

Each tribute achievement will have nominal score bound - as usual.
The difference is the effective score (only for tribute achievements) will depend on the week (lockout period) instead of the date.

Guilds will receive the same amount of points in case they have completed tribute achievement in the same lockout period.

So guilds will have possibility to plan their raids for any day of week.

In case of two guilds will have the same total amount of points, the date of the last achievement will be used, if the date is the same, then the previous achievement date will be used, etc.

Why include tribute achievements in the encounter rating?
The encounter rating includes fights that depend on raid performance (good quality of playing) and the tribute achievements match the criteria.
My personal opinion - there should be the pull limit included in WoW PvE from the very beginning as it prevents brute-forcing and encourages working on personal skill, tactics, doing homework with combat logs and videos

Why use dates for bosses and lockout periods for tribute achievements?
When doing first kills on bosses, raids will be in a hurry anyway as they want to kill as many bosses as possible.

The final encounter for 25-man will be A Tribute to Insanity.

The final encounter for 10-man will be A Tribute to Dedicated Insanity
Yes, there will 10-man ranking available soon and it will exclude guilds that are doing 25-man hard modes.

What do you think?
Feel free to post your constructive opinions/ideas.
- the same for region, "paladin Drak'thul US" query will output list of paladins on US-Drak'thul realm
- improved search relevancy (results could be a little strange before, for example "Stars" query returned "Noobs All Stars" guild as first result)

I've analyzed player rotations for TOP4000 US/EU guilds during period June 10 - July 10.

Lets look at guilds that were quite successful in raiding until they lost most of their members (guild size became less than 25).

This graph shows how many guilds unable to raid anymore, depending on the World Rank. We see that there is a big peak at rank 3300-3500. They are unable to do further progress almost in 30% of cases.

What's with the 3300 number?

The thing is that there is about 3300 guilds that have done Heartbreaker (H) for the moment and the guild rank range 3300-3500 consists guilds that killed 25-man Yogg-Saron but didn't defeat Heartbreaker (H) yet.

I think there can be different reasons:

They are unable to do Heartbreaker as it is the first serious performance check. (Doubt it though - if a guild killed Yogg-Saron they most probably should be able to defeat hardmode XT-002).

They aren't going to do the hard modes as they already saw the whole Ulduar content.

They are raiding for items and they are okay with farming T8.5 content and don't want ilvl 239 items because "they just a few stats better". (They didn't read Item Level Mechanics for sure)

In short, there is a border between easy mode and hard mode and there is the glitch because of that.

On the one hand it's a good thing since it prevents burn-out of most of the people (they don't have to "bash heads" for the hard modes). On the other hand it's not so smooth barrier due to conflict of interests of different people inside guild. And it may lead to a guild disband.

Download link (733MB)

This kill was a long time coming. We were working on it for weeks (months?) and theorycraft began ages ago. All of the silly forum threads and "math" that proved it impossible were quite obviously not even close to accurate.

The progression phases a raid goes through on this fight while learning are just amazing. From how to keep ahead in phase 2, maximizing stun times, getting all corruptors down, then dealing with mob handling in phase 3... with your tanks having extremely limited time, sanity, and tons of pressure to even figure out what they have to do to maximize efficiency, while your DPS is trying to not lose their own sanity while the boss is killed.

Fusion Guild Master's account stolen

Fusion guild on Turalyon, one of the top US guilds, have lost their guild master's account along with the guild bank and unable to raid without the main tank (as the GM was also a MT) for several days now.

As Kyth recently posted on StratFu:

He’s the most paranoid fellow I know (he runs Firefox and noscript, he never even shared his account information with his felllow officers, everything has different passwords, he won’t allow software like eqdkp to be installed on the site due to a history of exploits.)

But he doesn’t have an authenticator for the same reason I don’t: they’ve showed as out of stock every time I’ve checked for the past year in the Blizzard store. And I check about once a week. The iPhone app may be free, but iPhones themselves are not. (Update: I have since learned you can get these from eBay. Guess I’m not enough of a child of the internet generation, neither of us ever thought of it and no friends suggested it. There’s a bunch there though, I just looked. Another tip is to always look at 8am PST / 11am EST. I always look before/after raids, and by then apparently they’re always sold out by then.)

Normally a single member getting hacked — even an officer — isn’t that big a deal. Unfortunately due to our light roster and the fact that he’s our main tank, we haven’t had the people to work on Yogg+0 so have canceled progression raids.

It’d be nice if I could say that Blizzard got his email explaining that 30 people were unable to raid and responded, but we’re at Day 5 now without any information from Blizzard. Another reset is upon us, and we may lose a second week of Yogg+0 as a result. We just flat out don’t have the melee on the roster to have his place taken over and still have enough DPS down in the portals.

I’m sure whoever got the account (who was clearly part of a network, as people watched his behavior) thought he'd died and gone to heaven: 300k gold, 50+ stacks of frost lotus, two full tabs of enchanting mats, two full tabs of fish feasts, a tab of mana injectors, a tab of speed pots, and hundreds of stacks of lichbloom, goldclover, ice thorn, etc.

Now they have rebuilt under "Fusion for Hire" tag and wait till Blizzard let their GM/MT play again.

The Ulduar engame will be ranked by points

Just wanted to clarify how the rating works in the Ulduar endgame.

As most encounters such as Freya+3, Firefighter, Algalon and Yogg+0 are important, guilds will be ranked by points once they have Yogg+0 down.

So the endgame rating will be based on cumulative guild performance during their Ulduar progression.
That means guild rank may not match Yogg+0 kill rank.

Also, as Yogg+0 is the hardest encounter we have seen so far, I've put the additional list on the front page, so we could easily see rankings by Yogg+0 kill time.
