The Early Days: Sargeras

RHOT was originally called The Red Hand of Terra and was formed by a group of D&D players who were excited about the possibilities WoW had to offer as an MMORPG. We started playing on the Sargeras server at the date of launch (November 2004) and our guild was formed shortly therafter. The core members of the guild would invite people they knew in real life to join the guild and by May 2005 we had about 20 members (half of which would play somewhat regularly) and this website.

Eventually, some of our members decided they wanted more out of WoW and left to join larger guilds they could actually raid with. The remaining members of the Red Hand were concerned with the defections and decided to open guild membership to folks we met in game. We met some cool people in this way, but as our numbers grew (over 100 characters, at one point) we found ourselves embroiled in something all large guilds are familiar with...drama.

So it came to pass that in September 2005, Xullwae (our fearless leader) created a splinter guild, The Red HERD of Terra, that would be an all Tauren Druid guild. Into this guild we strictly adhered to our policy of inviting only those we know personally, and Xullwae's alt, Sywen, would be the guild leader. The core members (who were the officers of the Red Hand) played almost exclusively in the Herd for a couple months. During this period the Red Hand's numbers dwindled due to lack of consistent leadership.

The Detheroc Move

In December 2005, some of the larger raiding guilds on Sargeras announced they would be moving to Detheroc. In these guilds were some of our personal friends that moved on from the Red Hand during the summer exodus. Since they were moving with their guilds, we decided that we would follow so we could play with our friends. In any event we all wanted a fresh start. The Red Hand and the Red Herd were combined on Detheroc under the common accronym RHOT.

After the Detheroc move RHOT briefly flirted with an alliance with Praetorian Guard, which resulted in a few ZG funs in early 2006. Later, RHOT saw it's own numbers grow substantially thanks to having three new groups of friends join. We have Strummer's Dragoons (a group of friends introduced by Sardokk), the Engenio/Tuscany Crew (invited by Evita), and finally the Babes of Brill (led by Sende whom Evita, Sywen, and Twaz all know).

Eventually, leadership passed to Evita and in time, RHOT was able to raid ZG on their own, eventually culminating in a successful run against all 5 Aspects and a number of unsuccessful attempts on Hakkar himself (a bug which caused our tanks to disconnect ultimately did us in).
