Zug Life, the oldest guild on Cho'Gall (approaching our 6th birthday!), is a small guild of friends from a variety of sources. Many of us go back through school, work, family, or previous mmo's and fps games. Some of us have never met in person, other members are coworkers and extended family. We like it that way, and we like it when people come in with friends of their own to build our own little network. We are an older group, with all but a few of us college age or (significantly) older. Several of us are well on the other side of 30 with spouses and children.
We made it through Brutallus, Algalon, Arthas, and Sinestra 7.5 hour raid weeks, and don't see a reason to raid any longer than that. If you are only interested in progression and actually want to raid 20-30 hours a week, we are not a good fit. There are plenty of those style guilds on this server.
We offer something different and cater to a different type of person. We expect our raiders to give raiding their very best, but we do not want it to dominate their lives. We’re looking for people who do not want the guild to occupy every moment of their time on-line, and who can handle people with a similar mentality.
Our culture is a bit rough and tumble and we have an odd collective sense of humor. We progress at our own pace, which allows our members to retain their social lives. For Cataclysm, we again require 2/3 raid attendance.
Cho'gall is a very progressed server and there are many raiding guilds here. Here are reasons why you might be interested in Zug Life rather than others:
--We are an older and technically more mature crowd. If you can handle warped, if not profoundly disturbed, humor, you'll fit in well. Our culture is doing something right, as our retention rate for people who become part of the raid crew is exceptionally high.
--We have much more modest time requirements than most raiding guilds. Our raids last about two and a half hours and we only raid three times a week. You also don't need to be at every raid. If you can make two thirds of them on a regular basis, that's just fine.
--Our raid times are friendly to West Coasters without going too late for people on the East Coast.
--You will be playing with skilled players that care about theorycraft and are committed to improving their raid performance. You will be expected to do the same.
--We have a transparent dkp system. You make it to raids, you get rewarded. No loot council here.
--We embrace off specs and bring them to raids. All we ask is that you have a pve build and can pull it off in a raid setting.
--We do not yell or engage in excessive tongue-lashing in raids.
--We will gladly consider group apps. Many of our best players have come together in small and medium sized groups. If there's a small guild out there who's been farming heroics, and is looking for more, this might be a home for you.
--We're looking for raiders. People that rarely or never show to raids are actively pruned from the guild roster.
--Given the free money of daily quests, we expect you to bring a pve talent build to raids. In fact, most of our raiders bring two.
--There is a strong emphasis on individual performance and improvement. We've helped many members come a long way in their play, but you need to be open to constructive criticism. We actively discuss raid postmortems on wow web stats and have class leaders that will check out your playstyle, talents and gear. For people who repeatedly fail to improve, the pressure can become a bit much and they usually leave on their own accord before being shown the door.
--People who fail to become a part of the guild, are obnoxious or are trouble makers tend to be removed quickly and without much in the way of warning.
--We will always consider any applicant
