What is Cull the Herd all about?
Cull the Herd, is an active and Semi Casual WoW Guild. We are based on Emerald Dream US server. Cull the Herd is a mature guild with most of our members ranging from 25 years of age to 60 years of age. Our members are helpful, and active in that they play and raid typically after the typical work day, as well as weekends.
For mature, generally 18+. The vast majority of our members are all older adults. We never accept apps from anyone under 18.
Within our guild we support several types of play styles including:
Non-raiding players who want a social guild
Standard Raiders who can raid occasionally but are not chasing content
Progress raiders, who want to progress, see content, and can handle feedback, and will make the raid schedule.
We have a decent sized player base, and as such we have rules to protect the interests of the various groups to help prevent them from colliding.
Joining Cull the Herd and status within the guild
All horde players can apply for Cull the Herd if they believe the guild environment may suit them. We especially encourage recruitment of real life and in-game friends.
All applications without exception will go through a process of screening to verify the following:
Mature and dignified behavior,
You must be able to speak English.
Alignment of values.
Meet the minimum age requirement.
This will earn you the status of a Pledge in Cull the Herd. You may advance from this status to a fully-fledged member if the guild receives a positive impression - time alone is not the dominating factor. Though typically after 1 week a decision will be made.
Should you leave the guild and wish to re-apply, you will be required to post a re-application on our forum. Should you be successful in rejoining, you will once again have Pledge status, as when joining the guild for the first time.
Raiding
Players that signed up for a certain raid, have a priority for raid spots based on the status below:
Veteran Raider > Raider > Member > Prospect.
If too few players sign-up or it's likely that we won't have enough strength to tackle the planned instance, the raid may be converted or canceled.
If you signed up for a raid and cannot keep your commitment, you must reach out the Council via Discord, direct message, or forum post. Try your best to give us as much notice as possible.
People will be promoted to Raider rank if they are raiding regularly in a given month and meet the above listed requirements. Raiders will be demoted to member if they have been attending raids but are not currently doing so / if you miss more than 3 consecutive raids or show a lack of consistency.
Meeting the requirements for the status you want:
Gear requirements are entry level to the raiding tier we're currently doing. Being well geared from one tier below should be enough to meet them. However, gear is not the only factor. Skill, in-raid behavior, preparation with food/pots etc., as well as general fight knowledge will also be looked at.
In effect it means several things:
Good gear does not guarantee you a progression raid spot.
It's likely you will need to start off on reset nights to give raid leaders and above a good chance to gauge your skill and personality.
We may be able to "boost" you through Mythic+ & raids to speed up the process, but we are in no way obliged to do so, and you should be fully prepared to gear up without assistance.
Mains/Alts/Prospects/Inactive
Members can have as many alts in the guild as they wish, Prospects may be restricted to less additional characters until they are promoted.
You must edit your public note on your alts with your main’s name. Inactive alts will be removed after 10 days of inactivity. Inactive mains will be removed after 14 days of inactivity unless there is communication to an officer regarding away time / vacation etc.
Raiders are also expected to leave their main lockout for raiding with the guild. That said, however, we are not an alt parking lot. If you are seeking membership within Cull the Herd, we fully expect you to be applying with your main character. We don't look favorably upon people looking to join to have somewhere to park their Horde alts whilst raiding on an Alliance main 5 nights a week.
Guild Communications
Our main purpose is to have fun playing the game. Guild chat is an important way of socializing within the game - and is welcomed. It helps the team spirit and rapport building between players. Another, equally important part is participation on the guild forums. We also request all guild members welcome new prospects, make them feel at home!
We do not want to see abusive language, excessive swearing or explicit sexual content on guild chat or on the forums. Neither will any form of racism, sexism, ageism or religious bigotry directed against other players be tolerated in the guild.
We have our own Discord server and strongly encourage its use during any in-game activities, mainly because it makes everything more fun, and easier to communicate.
For raids, being able to listen to the raid leader's instructions in Discord is compulsory. You don't need to be able to speak, but it is encouraged when appropriate.
Relations with other players
As a member of Cull the Herd you represent our guild through behavior and chat. We strive to keep up our good reputation as a friendly and mature guild. Maturity is not a question of age, but rather of behavior - the key principle being to not cause offense through words or deeds.
We should all endeavor to:
Be helpful and supportive to other players to help them obtain greater skill and mastery of the game. Convey a positive gaming culture.
Share resources as much as possible within the guild and have a Fun > Need > Greed attitude. Have good relations with other players and guilds.
Guild Discipline
Overwhelmingly, the atmosphere in Cull the Herd is mature, relaxed and friendly. However, we have had to kick people from the guild before. Most /gkicks were due to people being disrespectful of other guild members - either verbally or by their actions.
Examples of unwelcome behaviors, whether they occur within the guild or are reported to us by other guilds, include (but are not limited to):
Bad-mouthing
Excessive corpse camping
Spamming chat channels (including guild chat)
Paid power leveling
In addition, activities that are against Blizzard's ToS (such as gold buying, buying/selling accounts, using hacks and botting) lead to immediate kick from the guild.
The guild does not want people to share accounts, but will not take action against account sharing.
Guild Structure
The guild is run by a council of up to 5 people.
The Council share responsibilities of the guild leadership and are in charge of the guild's daily business. They are highly involved in guild matters and often serve as an extended council for matters that require more opinion and discussion.
