Guild Profile

Primary Language: English
Raids per week: 2
semi-hardcore
Recruiting (outdated): closed
Update as of 11/10/2023 - The guild has been mostly inactive for the Dragonflight expansion with a few players casually logging on to level characters. When I had to step away from WoW in June of 2022, I was unable to return for the Dragonflight expansion. We had good progress in Sepulcher of the First Ones - the last raid tier of Shadowlands - and went 7/11M, stopping right after our mythic Halondrus kill in June of 2022. At the time of the break we were #23 on the realm and roughly #520 U.S.

Currently, all of our raid team has either taken a hiatus, quit WoW, gone more casual, or found other mythic raiding teams to make their pushes for CE.

Contact Info - My name is Wretchedmist and I'm the GM and raid leader of Obsidian Spur. My Discord is Wretchedmist#7609 and my bnet is Wretchedmist#1868. Add me as a friend on Discord and send me DMs that way. I have been playing my priest since September 2005 and healing raids since Molten Core. I've been the guild master of Obsidian Spur since TBC, sometime in 2007. I currently do calls as the 21st man for our raids, which is something I started in mythic SoD, since I'm unable to effectively play my priest in a raid setting while simultaneously trying to do anything else.

We aren't recruiting right now since the guild is inactive, but here was my former recruitment posting:

I look for people who fit well and have certain characteristics, not just players who can parse and play well enough for Cutting Edge. I’m looking for raiders who meet the following:

- Like raiding and are committed to it, regardless of how “good” the tier is
- Have no problem keeping up with systems - reps, sockets, conduits, vault, keys, etc.
- Are near 100% reliable on raid nights - are punctual and on time
- Have a desire to achieve Cutting Edge
- Are somewhat communicative, at least when necessary
- Are calm, patient, and somewhat positive - some bosses are overtuned and not fun
- Admit their mistakes and work to improve themselves - don’t be defensive
- Balance WoW with life - don’t burn out, implode, yell at others
- Have responsibilities and interests outside of WoW
- Are self-reliant and take initiative
- See themselves playing WoW long-term into the future
- Want to play retail WoW, not “Classic” versions of it
- Have full control of their Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights

Raiding - Our guild raids two main nights on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00-11:30 eastern. We also use Sunday night as an optional third night where we farm normal, heroic, and/or prior mythic mounts. When a new raid tier comes out, I add an additional third night of raiding on Wednesday nights for the first five weeks to give us a head start. If we're close to getting CE near the end of the tier, I may add on a few Wednesday or Sunday nights. I consider our Thrall rankings to be competitive since most mythic raiding guilds don't survive, have more rigorous structures, and tolerate toxic players for their abilities. I consider the raiding element of our guild to be semi-hardcore. My objective as guild master is to maintain a stable guild, keep things drama-free, and try to achieve CE each raid tier. I work hard to bring in good people who are committed to staying here and helping our guild achieve. This is something I believe in. I started doing calls for the raid team as the 21st man during SoD in Shadowlands after healing and doing calls simultaneously for many years. Mythic raids have become too difficult and overtuned to do both simultaneously.

Here's a summary of our recent raiding history, even though we've been raiding since Vanilla Molten Core. It will be difficult for me to get accurate data from earlier than this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IVpSMJuvK4vvTzWaUEizuQ2nu8gOWap1QcBfFCP5XD4/edit?usp=sharing

Mythic+ Dungeons - Raiders need to do their best to maximize their vault rewards each week. We have people in our guild who run mythic+ dungeons quite frequently, although this diminishes as each raid tier goes on. The first 3-4 months of the raid tier is the most active time. Many players like to push keys of 20+ consistently. Before the mythic+ system existed, we completed full 8/8 Warlords and 9/9 Mists gold medals. At one point we had realm best time for Mogu'shan Palace, which granted some players the exclusive "Mistwalker" title.

Guild History - Obsidian Spur is an original Horde WoW launch guild. We were originally on Sargeras and transferred the guild to Thrall when Mists came out. We used to be a more hardcore raiding guild back in Vanilla, getting into Naxx 40. Things changed in TBC when all of our guild leadership left for other raiding guilds. I was the only active officer who stayed. This killed our 25-man raiding efforts for the rest of TBC. During Wrath we successfully collaborated with a few Horde guilds on Sargeras (The Wrecking Crew and Virakar), eventually clearing all of it on our own. Cataclysm was another successful expansion for us, ultimately completing heroic Madness of Deathwing. Many players returned during Mists and we ran two 10-mans, each of which completed their AotC and went into heroic raid content. Many players returned for Warlords, but most people quit the failed expansion. Warlords introduced the 20-man mythic format, but we didn't have the people for it. Instead we just cleared AotC. When Legion arrived I set new goals and rebuilt with new people, some of which came from the guild The Remnant. We expanded our community and maintained a steady and successful mythic raiding environment every week, completing two CEs on Xavius and Argus. This continued in BfA, and we finished the expansion strong with a CE on N'zoth. BfA presented many new, large challenges, such as the release of Classic WoW. I was proud of our raiders for getting through BfA while many guilds around us collapsed.

Guild Members - Most of our members are between the ages of 25-40 and have been playing WoW for many years. We are a social community of people who like to play WoW and other games. Lots of WoW-lifers here. Most people here want to mythic raid, although we also have some casuals who do their own thing. As stated previously, I try to bring in reliable, busy, chill people onto our team - people with jobs, careers, families, and responsibilities. I don't recruit or retain players who are toxic, even if they perform at a high level. If players lash out at others or cause any additional problems for me, I will remove them from the raid team and guild, regardless of how good or reliable they are. I don't have the time or energy to deal with difficult personalities.
